Speaker
Prof. Loh is a social entrepreneur and inventor who combines math, science, and technology with firsthand exploration of the human condition across the evolving global landscape of work, Al, and education. Major newspapers have profiled his diverse innovations, and his latest initiative unites math stars and actors to transform education.
He won a silver medal for Team USA at the 1999 International Math Olympiad and later served for a decade as National Coach. He is also a Hertz Fellow, part of a community of broadly innovative scientists with roots in the Manhattan Project and the Space Race
He personally speaks in an unprecedented 100+ cities per year on education in the era of Al: at conferences, while substitute-teaching in K-12 classrooms, visiting companies and labs, and giving public lectures. In each setting, he learns while sharing ideas with students, parents, researchers, and policymakers, all while teaching at one of the world’s foremost universities in Al (Carnegie Mellon) and running his own EdTech social enterprise.
Building a Thought Full World: Creativity + Love of Humanity
Abstract
Al and technology are increasingly pulling people apart, with addictive artificial pleasures and, soon, artificial friends. Yet the basic biology of our human species depends on people loving people: some to physically create new generations, others to support them, all while thinking for themselves with the creativity to handle the unprecedented. Without this, there may one day be no more people.
Meanwhile, technology continues to advance at breakneck speed. Without urgent and large-scale collective action, society risks heading toward a lifeless world sustained only by Al.
Any truly global solution must creatively discover win-win situations that align human and technological incentives. In this talk, a social entrepreneur will share his experience in building an ecosystem that teaches both creativity and love for humanity by bringing together the worlds of professional actors, mathematicians, and Internet live-streaming. He will also discuss the future of Al and share strategies for thriving in the age of intelligent machines.
All are welcome!
