HKU I-School

Master of Science in Innovation and Technology

The Master of Science in Innovation and Technology (MSc(I&T)) is a one-year, full-time taught postgraduate programme offered by the School of Innovation (I-School) at The University of Hong Kong (HKU).

Designed for STEM graduates and technically trained early-career professionals, the programme equips students to lead innovation in technology-intensive organisations across the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and globally. The MSc(I&T) prepares graduates to move beyond technical execution and take on roles that require the integration of technology, human needs, strategic thinking, and societal responsibility.

Grounded in a broad understanding of how innovation occurs in startups, established firms, research environments, and public-sector organisations, the programme develops the capabilities needed to translate technology-based ideas into real-world impact in an increasingly complex and AI-accelerated landscape.

Artificial Intelligence as a Core Competency

Recognising artificial intelligence as a foundational capability for contemporary innovation, the MSc(I&T) integrates AI across courses, projects, and reflective practice. Students learn to apply AI tools in research, design, prototyping, and decision-making, and to work effectively in human–AI collaborative environments.

The programme emphasises both technical fluency and responsible use, ensuring graduates understand the opportunities, limitations, and ethical implications of machine intelligence.

Why HKU MSc(I&T)?
